Steve Benn

Began Training: 1973

Mr. Steven Benn began training in Shotokan Karate in 1973 under Leslie Safar Sensei and the supervision of JKA & ISKF Chief instructor Teruyuki Okazaki Sensei at the South Jersey Karate Club in Collinswood New Jersey.

His competitive achievments include competing in the college team & individual championships from 1978 until 1980. Also competition in the East Coast Karate Championships from 1976 until 1980. He was a member of the East Coast Team Champions in 1980 along with Sensei Salvatore Lopresti, and placed in the finals of the 1980 East Coast Championship tournament in Washington DC. Later that same year, due to many other commitments, Mr. Benn had to stop Training.

Mr Benn's wife Laurie convinced him to go back to Shotokan Karate training. In January of 2000, after a 20 year absence, Mr. Benn Began to train again under Salvatore Lopresti Sensei. With the instruction of Sensei Lopresti along with Paul Lopresti and the aid of all the other instructors and black belts , Mr. Benn was awarded shodan (1st degree black belt) by Sensei Salvatore Lopresti in December of 2002.

Mr Benn continues to train regularly while working in the field of Automotive Finance. He lives with his wife Laurie in Sewell New Jersey.
