Tony Savino
Born: 09/1945
Began Training: 1973

Mr. Tony Savino began training in Shotokan karate in 1973 under Mr. Leslie Safar at the South Jersey Karate Club in Collingswood, NJ. Mr. Savino received his Shodan in 1978 from the JKA and ISKF Chief Instructor Teriyuki Okazaki Sensei. He continued to train under Sensei Safar and later earned Nidan in 1980 and Sandan in 1984 also under Sensei Okazaki. In September of 1996, Mr. Savino attained the rank of Yondan under the late Osamu Ozawa Sensei. In May 2002, Mr. Savino successfully passed his Godan Exam and now holds a Fifth Degree Black Belt.

In 1999, he successfully completed a level 1 instructor-training course under Salvatore Lopresti Sensei. Sensei Lopresti has been his instructor for nearly two decades and has influenced Mr. Savino's karate technique. With the aid of Mr. Lopresti's son, Paul, Mr. Savino has been able to achieve a deeper understanding of the roots of his karate. The roots were clouded in Mr. Savino's effort to develop a single perfect technique. In what was once thought of as a myriad of repetitious movements, Mr. Savino has now begun to learn how and when to use the a particular offensive and/or defensive movement, as well as it's effectiveness. Mr. Savino will continue to pass this information on to other karate practitioners as an assistant instructor.

Mr. Savino runs his own travel agency in Voorhees, NJ. He lives with his wife in South Jersey.
